Transfer Station Upgrades
In recognition of the ever increasing waste problem, Alpine Shire Council made a decision to stop using Council run landfill sites and centralise the municipalities waste to commercially operated landfill. This change in policy allows for greater recycling opportunities and accountability of waste management systems with improved user facilities. To assist Council in the transition, North x North East were engaged to facilitate the landfill closure and transfer station upgrade works at the Myrtleford and Mount Beauty sites.
Mount Beauty Transfer Station
The Mount Beauty Site ceased to operate landfill approximately 20 years ago, yet remains a transfer station servicing the communities of Mount Beauty, Tawonga, Tawonga South and other small communities in the eastern Kiewa Valley. The 2017 transfer station upgrade saw the construction of drop walls to cater for saw tooth arranged bins, implementation of defined stockpile managed areas, materials to be processed on site and the site layout amended for improved traffic flow.
North x Norther East were responsible for the procurement of specialist landfill consultants and construction contractors. NxNE managed the contractors and project administration for the project including stakeholder engagement and funding agreement requirements.
Myrtleford Transfer Station
The Myrtleford site has only recently ceased landfill operations, April 2017, and this contract involved upgrading the site to an operational transfer station. Similar to Mount Beauty this site was upgraded with drop walls in a saw tooth arrangement but also required lifting of the existing site shed roof to allow for kerbside waste trucks to unload undercover.
North x North East managed the design development process with specialist consultants and key stakeholders to ensure critical infrastructure requirements were achieved. NxNE also administered the construction works as Superintendent Representative for Council.
