Flood Damage Remediation
North x North East has been engaged by municipal authorities in north east Victoria to implement several flood damage remediation programs under the Government’s Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA). North x North East works closely with program assessors in VicRoads, Department of Human Services and Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) to ensure remediation works are completed quickly and in accordance with the program requirements.
Mansfield Flood Remediation Works
In December 2017 Mansfield Shire Council sustained a large amount of flood related damage to its roads network, including significant damage to a large culvert on Delatite Lane. Multiple assets were damaged, the most notable being the Delatite Lane culvert where a large headwall collapsed and the road embankment eroded. Gabion baskets were used as a retainer to allow new road base construction and to prevent future erosion.
North x North East was engaged by Mansfield Council to deliver the Delatite Lane works and other remedial works associated with the event. In this role North x North East liaised with the NDRAA assessor VicRoads and DTF, estimating works, managing contractors and processing claims.
Alpine Shire Flood Remediation Works
In September and October of 2016, heavy rains and wide spread flooding caused extensive damage to Council assets and road infrastructure in the Alpine Shire Region.
To repair the damage, Alpine Shire Council engaged North x North East to facilitate the remediation works with funding provided by the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
North x North East established a panel of civil contractors in accordance with Council policy to undertake rectification works consisting of 500 discrete jobs with an estimated value of $1.25M.
In addition to establishing the panel, North x North East’s role in the remediation project was to allocate individual works to panel members, manage the construction process, quality control, invoice assessment and process claims to NDRRA.
Replacement culvert Havilah Rd, Alpine Shire
A large culvert on Havilah Road in the Alpine Shire was significantly damaged during the September and October floods in 2016. Initially the damage to the road infrastructure was not identified due to the obscuring heavy vegetation. North x North East submitted a claim with extensive supporting documentation to the Governments Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) assessors, receiving an additional $130k grant for a proposed alternative rectification method.
The alternative rectification method allowed for boring of a new 750mm dia. concrete pipe under Havilah Road. This construction technique removed the need for road closure, was quicker than convention methods and was cost effective.
